Garage to Bedroom in Barry

Extra Sleeping Space

Make Room for an Extra Bedroom at Home

Convert your garage into an additional bedroom within your home. Cooksey Renovation carefully coordinates the agreed insulation, services and room finishes, with access and fire safety requirements considered before work starts. Lance is your main contact throughout the project.

Space for Family or Guests

Create an extra sleeping room with space for a bed, storage and clear routes planned together.

Warmth, Light and Privacy

Plan insulation, heating, ventilation and windows together, with privacy considered for the room.

One Contact Through Build

Lance coordinates the conversion and trades from garage preparation to finished surfaces.

Agreed Scope

What Your Bedroom Conversion Includes

Your quote sets out the agreed room preparation, insulation, services, openings and finishes for the proposed bedroom, including any required access changes.

Room Layout, Access and Safety

The bedroom layout considers bed and storage positions, headroom and routes into the house. Required fire safety and escape provisions are established for the proposed design before the conversion scope and room openings are agreed.

Floor, Insulation and Heating

The existing floor, walls and roof are reviewed before the conversion is specified. Moisture protection, insulation and heating are planned together, with finished floor levels and headroom considered before linings and flooring are installed.

Windows, Light and Ventilation

Window positions need to balance daylight, privacy and ventilation for the sleeping room. The front of the garage and any new openings are planned around the design, including suitable escape provisions where required and the connection to the house.

Services, Finishes and En Suite

Plan lighting, sockets, storage and the agreed room finishes around the bed layout. An en suite can be considered where space, drainage and ventilation allow, with any bathroom work specified separately within the agreed conversion scope.

Discuss the Garage and Bedroom Layout

At the visit, we review the garage, floor, headroom and access, then discuss the bedroom layout. Required design, escape provisions and approval requirements inform the scope and quotation.

Before We Start

Cost, Timing and Planning

Garage to bedroom conversion cost and timing depend on the existing condition, insulation, access, required safety measures and agreed room finishes.

What Shapes the Price

The quote considers garage condition, floor work, insulation, heating and required safety measures. Openings, finishes and any agreed en suite work also shape the price.

What Shapes the Timeline

The programme follows required design and approvals, then preparation, insulation, services and finishes. Garage condition, access and any en suite work affect the sequence.

Check the Room and Required Approvals

A garage bedroom normally needs building regulations approval, including fire safety and ventilation checks. Welsh planning requirements are assessed separately.

Our Process

Plan the Bedroom Before the Fit-Out

Lance starts with a site visit to review the garage and discuss the bedroom you need. The layout, access, required fire safety measures and approvals inform the design and written quote. Moisture protection, insulation and services are coordinated before the room is lined and finished. Any agreed en suite work is planned around drainage, ventilation and space. Lance coordinates the trades and keeps you updated through the conversion.

Helpful Answers

Before You Convert Your Existing Garage

These answers cover en suite options, the intended room use and fire safety considerations when planning a garage bedroom conversion for practical, comfortable everyday living.

Can the bedroom have an en suite?

It may be possible if the layout allows enough space and suitable drainage, water supplies and ventilation. Any en suite work is assessed for the proposed design and included only where specified in the quotation.

Could the work need approval?

A garage bedroom normally needs building regulations approval. Planning is checked separately against the proposed work and any restrictions affecting the property. Read how construction work on a home is managed before a start date is set.

Is this a separate dwelling?

This service covers an additional bedroom that forms part of your home. A self-contained dwelling or annexe needs a separate assessment of the design, intended use and permission requirements.

How are fire safety and escape planned?

The required measures depend on the proposed layout and connection to the house. Escape routes, doors, windows and alarm provisions are considered with the bedroom design and building regulations requirements.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We cannot recommend Lance and the team enough. From beginning to end him and the team were professional, knowledgeable and communicative.

Lance did multiple visits to us before starting work to ensure the best end result, our bathroom was a difficult refurbishment to say the least, but the final result is a testament to Lance and the teams skill and determination.

When the work was being completed they were clean and tidy, often worked incredibly long days and kept me informed on any changes or challenges. He worked with us to keep to our budget updated us on any additional material charges.

My neighbour even commented on how friendly and polite they all were.

I have already recommended Lance to multiple people but will also have them back for any other renovation we need completing in the future. I wouldn't go with anyone else now.

The quality of their work is to a very high standard. They arrived on the agreed date to commence the renovation, were on time every morning, cleaned up after them every evening, and were pleasant and communicative throughout.
I can’t recommend this company highly enough and would certainly use them again or recommend them to friends and family.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cooksey renovations and the team did an amazing job with our new kitchen and flooring. The job needed blocking up doors, windows and a fair bit of plastering. They were all really tidy and cleaned up after each day before they left. I'm so happy with the work they have done. Thank you!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot recommend Lance and his team enough! They have renovated both my bathroom and en-suite as well as repairing and replastering my living room ceiling following existing water damage.
When I moved into my house, I knew there was gonna be a lot of work to do following previous leaks in the en suite and previous bad workmanship. All the team were professional, trustworthy and skilled in how they transformed my house. They kept everything clean and tidy (I even caught them hoovering my doorstep at one stage!) and made the house useable in between their working days. I had a very specific vision and they were able to make my dreams come to life and I’m so pleased with the end result.
They ripped out my old suites, replaced rotten floor boards, rebuilt damaged walls and install all new paperwork. Nothing was too much trouble and they were also the most competitive quote I received.
I have a kitchen and artexed ceilings to be renovated in the new year and there is no one else I would consider using.
Thanks guys! I really love what you’ve done!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cooksey Renovations updated our tired bedrooms. Removed an old built in office, and two sets of large fitted wardrobes, removed one wall and door to enlarge main bedroom, made good all coving, fitted new radiators and flooring and much more.
Excellent job, highly recommend. Would definetly use again.
